Reverb on bass? Yes! Digitech Supernatural Ambient Reverb pedal

You don't hear reverb on bass very often, and mostly for good reasons. But occasionally it can make sense to use it. In this video I go through the six different types of reverbs that are found in the Digitech Supernatural Ambient Verb pedal. Some types I add a lot of and others just a bit. Of course you can tweak all those different kinds of reverb a lot more, but my aim here is to show their basic character. As always, listen through good speakers or headphones to get the most out of the video. Subscribe to my channel to see more videos like this one!

http://www.shift-line.com/card.php?device=74 https://reverb.com/marketplace?query=Shift+Line+FORCE+microsampler+freeze+reverb&_aid=kingman Microsampling and Freeze Reverb have rarely (ever?) appeared in a pedal this size. The FORCE from Shift Line, Russia, does both jobs in two modes: standard and +octave-down. You can also use the footswitch in two modes: Momentary or Latching. Latching mode gives you extended power to override the current sound with a new one as demonstrated in this video. There is also a 'Shadow' mode (not demonstrated here). "To access this mode, press and hold down the footswitch, plug the power supply out of the pedal and plug it back in, then release the footswitch. The LED will start flashing. It is planned that in this mode you’ll be able to tweak the reverb’s attack and release time when engaging/disengaging the effect; at the moment, the “shadow” mode contains demos of the future pedals sounds. Only double-click bypass works in this mode. Disconnect power to exit this mode." FORCE is a lot of fun. It makes a great backing-track utility or practice tool and is tiny enough to fit on any pedal board. Use the Force, Luke! • Catalinbread Talisman Plate Reverb

    Catalinbread Talisman Plate Reverb

Buy Now: https://goo.gl/U5823c You just heard the Catalinbread Talisman, a pedal that captures the distinctive ambience of an EMT140 plate reverb, a unit that was a cornerstone of classic rock recordings from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Stones, Van Halen, and many, many more. Modeled after the sound of a real EMT140 owned by Portland's own legendary Jackpot! Studios, the Talisman squeezes the lush reverberations of the EMT's 7-foot long vibrating metal plate into a compact stompbox. In addition to the sound of the plate itself, the Talisman also gives you access to two tone-shaping tools commonly used in conjunction with a plate 'verb in studios; a high-pass filter to tame low frequency resonances, and a pre-delay control for putting up to 100 milliseconds of delay time between the picked note and the reverb. This is great for enhancing overall clarity, or dialing in a bit of slapback at the max setting. The Talisman also includes controls for Mix, Time, and Volume, and it operates from 9 to 18 volts for increased headroom and easy pedalboard integration. Like all Catalinbread pedals, the Talisman is hand-built in Portland, Oregon.

A tuner pedal. This Rowin tuner pedal comes in at about $18 and has a nice bright led display, perfect for both dark indoor stages, or outdoor sunny stages. When activated, it mutes the signal to your amp while you tune, and features true bypass when deactivated. It’s a chromatic tuner that works for guitar and bass, and when I checked it against my other more expensive tuners, it’s tuning is spot on. Next we have the next most important pedal that any guitar or bass player should have, a compressor pedal. Often times a little compression can do more for your tone than the rest of your rig. This Kokko mini compressor again is only $18 and has all the features you need to add extra articulation and sustain to your guitar. The three knobs control attack, sustain, and the overall level, here’s a nice sweet spot that I’ve found for it: See it’s really great for boosting your level, adding definition and articulation to your picking, and increasing sustain. I personally use compression all the time to cover up my incredibly sloppy guitar playing, and sometimes as a clean boost to kick my tube amp into overdrive. But if you don’t have a tube amp, and you want some of that sweet overdrive, here’s an overdrive pedal that I’ve found almost perfectly imitates my own tube amps overdrive. The Kokko FOD3 mini overdrive. Check this out: This thing breaks up pretty good for a nice crunch. No need for an expensive tube amp, this little pedal gets you some of that natural overdriven tone, and it can get pretty fuzzy if you want it to. Again, only $18. Now we have the most expensive pedal I’m going to show you today. This EX T-cube reverb pedal will set you back a whopping $31. But I think it’s really worth it, here’s why, check this out: Moving on to our last pedal. This is the same brand and series as the reverb pedal, the EX AD-6 analogue delay. This pedal is the next most expensive at $25. Which is an amazing price for an analogue delay pedal. It’s a basic bare bones delay pedal with four knobs which control overall level, delay mix, delay repeats, and the big one in the middle is the delay time (how fast or slow the delay is). And pair it with a volume pedal for some smooth swells. You know, like what you play at church when your pastor is finishing the sermon and your keys player is still asleep in the green room Not bad for $25 right? ...continue reading on my blog at https://gunsandguitars.net FULL DISCLOSURE: links in this description may be affiliate links

  • MusicRadar Basics: how to set up a pedal board for your guitar effects

    Duration: 3:39 - FileType: mp3 - Bitrate: 192 Kbps

MusicRadar Basics: how to set up a pedal board for your guitar effects

MusicRadar Basics is brought to you in association with Boss. Once you start using more than a couple of pedals you will need to consider the order in which they are laid out as this will have an effect on your overall tone. Pedals react differently depending on what’s coming into them, whether that's your pure guitar signal or the signal from other pedals, so we have to take this into account when lining up our pedals. This is often referred to as signal chain. You won't damage your pedals if you put them in the wrong order, and there's no right or wrong way, but when you're starting out we'd recommend following this basic order: Guitar Tuner Wah/EQ Distortion/overdrive Modulation effects (eg, chorus/flange) Time-based effects (eg, reverb/delay) Amp If you're using multiple pedals then a pedal board would be a wise investment too. They come in a variety of sizes to suit your needs and most come either built into a hardcase or with a soft bag for easy transportation. Whichever option you go for make sure you buy one that's big enough to fit your existing pedals comfortably and will accommodate more if you have plans to expand your set-up. Once you're happy with the order of your pedals and they're securely in place, you'll need enough short patch cables to connect your pedals together, plus two longer cables to connect between your pedal board and guitar and between your pedalboard and your amp. Buy the best you can afford to get the longest life out of your cables. When running multiple pedals you can, of course, power with batteries but you'll eat through them quickly. Alternatively you might want to try a multi-output power supply that will keep things simple and tidy. There are many standalone options, or you can opt for a pedal board with a power supply built in. There's also the option of building your own pedal board from scratch at home. This can be a fun and satisfying way of getting your 'board set-up just how you want it and there are plenty of tutorials that show you how online. Whatever works for you, a pedalboard is great way to keep your effects organised. Boss online - http://bit.ly/ZifBhT On Facebook - http://on.fb.me/ZyeLhg On Twitter - http://bit.ly/1ygsLeu

JHS Pedals VCR - Ryan Adams/PaxAm Signature Pedal

Buy Now: https://goo.gl/HVS8GN Today we're rewinding time with the VCR by JHS Pedals. The VCR is a collaboration with JHS Pedals and Ryan Adams with his PaxAm Studio, aimed at giving a wealth of options in one enclosure. Each letter in the VCR's name stands for one of the channels of the pedal, with each channel getting its own toggle switch. These toggles are individually activated to provide a combination of effects that's switchable with a master bypass footswitch. The V stands for Volume, which loads a dynamic Boost circuit into the signal path. Using a discreet circuit, the Volume channel thickens up any signal you feed into it, and you might never turn it off. The C channel is a lush chorus effect that sounds like a vintage BBD-equipped '80s chorus. Instead of rate and depth knobs, the VCR's Chorus has one knob that controls both rate and depth, with rate increasing and depth decreasing when dimed and the opposite controls when backed off. The R channel holds a hall-type reverb that has been tuned to match Ryan's exact specifications, from tone to decay time. The single knob controls the reverb level from light ambience to haunting echoes. Seven different combinations of effects can be achieved by piloting the toggle switches, and each effect has been expertly configured to ensure they stack extremely well with one another. A lo-fi switch on the back of the VCR decreases the signal's fidelity for some serious generation loss. And just like all JHS pedals, the VCR is made in the USA using a fine assortment of components.

The James Jamerson Motown Bass Sound Reverb Bass Tricks

It is hard to speak of the bass guitar without mentioning the Motown recordings of the 1960's and 70's and their most famous session bassist, James Jamerson. Jamerson played on dozens of number 1 hits and changed the way bass was applied to pop music forever. In this edition of Reverb's Bass Tricks series we explore how to replicate Jamerson's infamous thumpy tone. First there is the ACME Motown D.I. WB-3 (http://bit.ly/2cOJ4KA) which was designed to closely replicate the D.I. units Motown had specially made. Then there is how to set up a Fender P-Bass to Jamerson's specifications.
